Abstract
Infectious diseases are diseases caused by microbes one of which is Staphylococcus aureus. Staphylococcus aureus is a normal flora of the mucous layer of the human body. The condition that decreases the body's defenses can cause these bacteria to grow and cause disease. Staphylococcus aureus are resistant to multiple antibiotics. The purpose of this study to determine the antibacterial activity of a combination of ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of cottonwood leaves with cotrimoxazole against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Kapok leaf extracted by 70% ethanol and fractionated by ethyl acetate. Antibacterial testing is done to determine the disk diffusion inhibition zone. The concentration of ethyl acetate fraction of cottonwood leaves ethanol extract of 12.5% and 0.038% of co-trimoxazole. Comparison of a combination of ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of cottonwood leaves and cotrimoxazole: 1: 9; 2: 8; 3: 7; 7: 3; 8: 2; and 9: 1. The test results by comparison of antibacterial activity of a combination of ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of cottonwood leaves and cotrimoxazole against Staphylococcus aureus showed the ratio of 1: 9 and 2: 8 has the same activity with cotrimoxazole. Inhibition zone diameter of a ratio of 1: 9 and 2: 8 of 20.5 mm and 18.67 mm. Based on the results of statistical analysis of the ratio of 1: 9 and 2: 8 not significantly different with cotrimoxazole .
