Abstract

T. molitor is animal that that has an effect in decreasing the levels of total cholesterol, LDL and raise HDL cholesterol levels. This research purposed to know the effective doses of ethanol extract of Japanese ants can lower total cholesterol levels, LDL and raise HDL levels. This research was used 25 white male rats divided into 5 groups. Measurement of total cholesterol levels, HDL and LDL were done as three times, i.e. measurement of T0, T1 and T2. Induction of hyperlipidemia used PTU 0.01%, fatty pork and quail egg. The treatment was given as follows: Group I (CMC 0,1%), group II (simvastatin 1.8 mg/kg bw), group III (T. molitor ethanol extract 0.23 mg/kg bw), Group IV (T. molitor ethanol extract 0.47 mg/kg bw) and group V ( T. molitor ethanol extract 0.93 mg/kg bw). Data normality were tested with Shapiro-wilk test. Data were analyzed by One-way ANOVA test followed by Tukey HSD test. The results showed that administration of T. molitor ethanol extract could decrease total cholesterol levels, LDL and increase HDL levels of white male rat. The effective dose of T. molitor ethanol extract to decrase total cholesterol levels, increase HDL levels and decrease LDL levels were dose of 0.47 mg/kg bw, 0.93 mg/kg bw and 0.23 mg/kg bw, respectively.
