Abstract

Hyperuricemia is a condition in which uric acid levels in the blood is greater than the normal value. The purpose of this study was to determine the activity and the most active fraction of a fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate fraction and water fraction of ethanol extract of leaves binahong in lowering the levels of uric acid male leghorn cock, induced with chicken liver juice. This study uses six groups of cocks and induced with chicken liver juice. Group I: negative control by CMC 0.5%, Group II: positive controls were given allopurinol of 14 mg/1,5kgBW, group III: ethanol extract of leaf binahong 150 mg/1,5kgBW, group IV: n-hexane fraction 51 mg/1,5kgBW, group V: ethyl acetate fraction of 27mg/1.5kgBW, and group VI: water fraction of 73 mg/1,5kgBW. The blood serum by vena lateralis wing vein, conducted 3 times i.e day 0, 7, 14. The uric acid levels were measured by the spectrophotometer. The obtained data uric acid levels were analyzed by one way ANOVA (significance at p<0,05). Results showed significant differences between all treatment groups with a negative control, and no significant differences between treatment groups ethanol extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water with allopurinol a positive control. It shows that the ethanol extract and each fractions have the ability to lower uric acid levels. Keywords : Binahong, antihyperuricemia, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, water
