Abstract

Pluchea indica Less contains flavonoid which can be applied as a antioxidant to prevent ultra-violet (UV) radiation. Antioxidant is prepared in lotion dosage form which has a lessviscous that make possible allows to use quickly and evenly on the skin surface .The aim of study was to determine the effect of variation concentrations of triethanolamine (TEA) and stearic acid on the physical properties and the value of antioxidant lotion of ethanol extract of Pluchea indica Less. Ethanol extract was obtained by maceration method using ethanol 70 % . In vitro antioxidant value was measured by spectrophotometer and calculated using DPPH method. Formulation of Pluchea indica Less extract in lotion was prepared by several ratios of asam stearat and TEA that consist of five formula i.e F1(6:6), F2 (9:3), F3 (7,5:4,5), F4 (3: 9), F5 (4,5:7,5). The stability test of physical properties of lotion includedhomogeneity, organoleptic, spreadibility, viscosity, and pH. The results were statistically analyzed using two way ANOVA with 95% of confidence level. The results showed that stearic acid and TEA affected on the physical stability of the antioxidant lotion of Pluchea indica Less extract.The ratio of stearic acid and TEA 9:3 was the most stable formulation among the other formulations. Pluchea indica Less extract with concentrations of 10 % provided an antioxidant strong. Keywords : Pluchea indica Less, antioxidant , stearic acid , TEA , lotion
