Abstract
An open fracture of the tibia is one of the most common fractures in Indonesia. The use of antibiotics has become part of standard open fracture treatment of the extremities as prevention of infection. The study aimed to find out the pattern and evaluate the quality of antibiotic with gyssens method in adult patients open fracture tibia at Orthopedic Hospital Prof.Dr.R.Soeharso during period 2017. The design of this study was observational with retrospective approach and purposive sampling sampling technique. The study inclusion criteria were all open adult tibia fractures at 1865 years associated with an inpatient installation with length of stay minimum 1 day’s at Ortopedic Hospital Prof.Dr.R.Soeharso Surakarta who received antibiotic therapy in 2017, and patients with complete and clear medical records. Based characteristics of patients, the most common sex with open tibia fracture diagnoses was men with age’s 46-55 years old, and most antibiotics in open tibia fracture patients at Orthopedic Hospital Prof.Dr.R.Soeharso Surakarta is a cephazoline with an intravenous route. The quality of antibiotic use with Gyssens method in adult open fracture of tibia at Orthopedic Hospital Prof.Dr.R.Soeharso Surakarta 2017 got the result of category 0 (rational) 70.21%; while for category IIIb (use of antibiotics is too short) of 0.31%; and category V (without indication) 29.48%.
