Abstract

Pain is a symptom that has the function of protecting and giving their danger signs such as inflammatory disorders, infectious germs or muscle spasms. One of the plants that can be used for the treatment of pain is Andropogon citratus. Andropogon citratus contains alkaloid, saponin, flavonoid, polyphenol, and essential oil. The objectives of this research were to find analgesic effect of Andropogon citratus leaf ethanol extract and knowing the dose of Andropogon citratus leaf ethanol extract can provide an analgesic effect on white male mice. Andropogon citratus leaf was extracted by remaceration method using ethanol 70%. The analgesic effect testing was done using 25 male mice which divided into 5 groups. 1st and 2nd group were given CMC Na (negative control) and mefenamic acid (positive control). Third–fifth group were given Andropogon citratus leaf ethanol extract doses 2,3439; 4,6878; and 9,3756 mg/20g BW. Analgesic effect testing was done by measuring the reaction time using tail flick method after 30 minutes oral administration of drugs for 2 hours. Data were analyzed using two way ANOVA. The results showed that ethanol extract of Andropogon citratus dose 2,3439; 4,6878; 9,3756 mg/20g BW has analgesic effect on white male mice. The Andropogon citratus dose of 2,3439 mg/20g BB had the most optimal analgesic effect. Keywords: analgesic, Andropogon citratus leaf ethanol extract (Andropogon citratus DC.), tail-flick
