Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder or disease characterized by high blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia). Insects as Tenebrio molitor can be used as an alternative treatment to lower blood glucose levels because of the content of amino acids and proteins. This study was aimed to determine the effect of ethanol extract of Tenebrio molitor L to decrease blood glucose levels in rats with induced alloxan. Test animals were divided in to 5 groups which group consist of 5 rats. Group I was given CMC 0,5 %, group II was given glibenklamid (0,45 mg/kg), group III was given Tenebrio molitor L ethanolic extract (0,23 mg/kg), group IV was given Tenebrio molitor L ethanolic extract (0,46 mg/kg), group V was given Tenebrio molitor L ethanolic extract (0,92 mg/kg). The treatment is given for 7 days, with measurement of blood glucose levels at 3 days and 7 days. Analysis of the data obtained were analyzed using one way ANOVA with a level of 95% followed Tukey test. The results showed that the extract of Tenebrio molitor L can lower blood glucose levels. In the statistical results of a dose of extract of Tenebrio molitor L 0.23 mg / kg lowers blood glucose levels comparable to the control glibenclamide Keywords : Tenebrio molitor L, alloxan, glibenclamid, antihyperglycemic.
