Abstract

Type 2 diabetes is a metabolic disorder characterized by a rise in blood sugar due to a decrease in insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells and insulin function or disorder. Animal trusted by people which able to be used as medicine, especially for treating diabetes are antlion (Myrmeleon sp.) and mealworm beetle (Tenebrio molitor). This study aims to determine the combination of antidiabetic activity of an antlion and mealworm beetle in alloxan induced diabetes in male mice strain swiss webster and to determine the ratio of combination between those two animals as antidiabetic agent. Antlion and mewalworm beetle were fast-killed then made powder. Antidiabetic activity test conducted on 35 male mice with alloxan monohydrate 1% induction method. Animals were divided into 7 groups, group 1 to group 5 (control (-), control (+), antlion : mealworm beetle (25%: 75% ), antlion : mealworm beetle (50%: 50%), antlion : mealworm beetle (75%: 25%). Measurement of blood sugar levels had been checked every 3 days for 15 days. Results of this study is antlion and mealworm beetle powder have antidiabetic activity in male mice strain swiss webster. The combination of both which had the greatest of lowering blood sugar levels are antlion : mealworm beetle (75%: 25%). Keywords: antlion, mealworm beetle, antidiabetic.
