Abstract
Spinach spines (Amaranthus spinosus L.) is a plant that is used for the treatment of antipyretic, antibacterial and antimalaria. Spinach spines contain alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins and saponins. This study aims to observe the activity of ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of spinach leaves and thorns against Plasmodium falcifarum determine the concentration of ethyl acetate fraction of ethanol extract of spinach leaves thorns effective against Plasmodium falcifarum. Solvent extraction method using 70% ethanol and ethyl acetate fractionation method was obtaining by extracting the thorns spinach leaf powder using n-hexane, a solvent waste is extracted with ethyl acetate. Fraction identified and tested its chemical content antiplasmodium activity in vitro on Plasmodium falcifarum. IC50 values are calculated using linear regression analysis. The results showed that ethyl acetate fraction of thorns spinach leaf extract showed no growth inhibitory activity against Plasmodium falcifarum. Ethyl acetate fraction of thorns spinach leaf extract obtained IC50 of 275,45 µg/ml, indicating it is ethyl acetate fraction spinach spines less inhibit growth activity against Plasmodium falcifarum. Keywords: leaf spinach spines, antiplasmodium, Plasmodium falcifarum, IC50
