Abstract

White rhizome (Curcuma zedoaria (Berg.) Roscoe) plant contains several efficacious substances, one of which as the cancer drug, but there has been no research to examine the security standard of rhizome extract . This study was aimed to know the effects of acute toxicity on female mice. Acute toxicity tests conducted with fixed dose method using 30 female mice divided into six groups, the negative control (CMC 0.5%), the first dose (5 mg/kgBW), the second dose (50 mg/kgBW), the third dose (300 mg/kgBW), the fourth doses (2000 mg/kgBW), and the fifth doses (5000 mg/kgBW) for 14 days. Acute toxicity test of ethanolik rhizome extract performed on mice by observing the influence of extract on animal behavior after single-dose administration, weight loss, and weight of organs on the 14th day. The result showed after the administration of extracts on female mice to doses of 5000 mg/kgBW no mortality and significant toxic effects so rhizome extract could be declared safe.
