Abstract

Extracts of clove leaf, betel leaf and noni leaf from previous studies have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. The purpose of this study was to examine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract of clove leaf, betel leaf and noni leaf along its combination 1 : 1 : 1; 1 : 2 : 1; 2 : 1 : 1 and 1 : 1 : 2 against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. clove leaf and betel leaf extracted by maceration method with ethanol 70% as solvent while the noni leaf macerated with 80% ethanol as solvent. The extract was tested for antibacterial activity using the diffusion method with a concentration of 30%, 15% and 10% to determine the value of the diameter of inhibition zone. The results of the inhibition diameter was analyzed using statistical methods univariable. These results indicate that a single ethanol extract of clove leaf, betel leaves and noni leaf has antibacterial activity as well as any combination thereof .The higher the concentration of antibacterial activity the better result will obtained . The best concentration resulted in the most inhibition zone diameter is at 30% concentration. Diameter of the greatest inhibition zone produced by a single ethanol extract of betel leaf concentration of 30% equal to 25.00 mm when compared with single-leaf extract and noni leaf clove leaf. Diameter of inhibition zone's largest ethanol extract combination produced by ethanol extract combination of 1: 2: 1 (Cloves: Betel: Noni) concentration of 30% that is equal to 19:50 mm. Chemical content contained in extracts of clove leaf, betel leaf, and noni leaf has antagonism effect in inhibiting the growth of bacteria Staphylococcus aureus.
