Abstract

Sente plant (Alocasia macrorrhiza (L.) G. Don; family Araceae) constitute one of the plants in ethnobotany be used as a natural medicine. Family Araceae proven have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. This study aimed determine the antibacterial activity from fraction of the ethanolic extract sente leaf against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Extracted sente leaf by maceration method using ethanol 70%, then followed by the fractionation with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. Extract and leaf fraction sente were tested with dilution method were divided into 10 groups treated with various concentrations at 40% (v/v) up to 0.078% (v/v), against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 were already in standardize with Mc Farland 0.5 then determined Minimum Kill Concentration (MKC). Antibacterial test results sente leaf extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with (MKC), respectively for 20%, 10%, 1.25%, and 5%. Ethyl acetate fraction is the fraction most effective as an antibacterial Staphylococcus aureus. Keywords: sente leaf (Alocasia macrorrhiza (L.) G.
