Abstract

Moringa leaf (Moringa oleifera, Lmk.) is a tropical plant that has the potential medical field for treating diabetes mellitus because it contains flavonoids, alkaloids and saponins. The aim of this research for knowing the influence fractions of Moringa leaf ethanol extract to the decrease in blood glucose levels of male mice and to determine the most active fractions were able to lower glucose levels of male mice induced by alloxan. The method is used induction by alloxan. As many as 30 test animals were divided into six treatment groups: the negative control group (CMC suspension 0,5%), the positive control group (suspension glibenclamide dose of 0,013 mg/20 g BW mice), suspension moringa leaf extract group (5,6 mg/20 g BB mice), nhexane fraction group (2,11 mg/20 g BW mice), ethyl acetate fraction group (1,18 mg/20g BW mice) and water fraction group ( 2,30 mg/20 g BW mice). All groups alloxan induced on day 0 by intraperitoneally. Examination of blood glucose levels is done on the 3rd day after the induction of alloxan, at day -7 and -14 after administration of the test preparation. The result of statistic analysis shows antidiabetic effects in the treatment group fractions from the ethanol extract of moringa leaf can lower blood glucose levels of male mice induced by alloxan comparable with the positive control.
