Abstract

Long-term treatment of diabetes mellitus often cause side effects that alternative medicine safer and cheaper. Duwet leaf (Syzygium cumini) and bay leaves (Syzygium polyanthum) is one of the plants commonly used as antidiabetic drugs to lower blood glucose levels. The purpose of this study to determine wheter the combination of the ethanol extract of leaves Duwet and bay leaves can lower blood glucose levels in male rats wistar strain and determine the most effective dose. The method in this study conducted in rats given injections of alloxan with the dose of 30 mg/200 g BW mice intraperitoneally. Measurement of blood glucose levels on day 7 and day 14. Rats were divided 7 treatment groups, each of 5 rats. Group I (negative control) by CMC 0,5%, group II (positive control) by glibenclamide 0,09 mg/200 g BB rats, group III is the group given the leaf extract duwet 25 mg/200 g BB rats, group IV is the group given the bay leaf extract 18,34 mg/ 200 g BB rats and group V, VI, VII ias the combination treatment group were given the leaf extract duwet and bay leaves with a dose (6,25 mg : 13,755 mg) (25% : 75%), (12,5 mg : 9,17 mg)(50% : 50%), and (18,75 mg : 9 mg)(75% : 25%). In the research results showed that the leaf extract of the combination group duwet and bay leaves with a variety of doses, the most effective in lowerin blood glucose levels in mice is a combination duwet leaf extract and bay leaves (25% : 75%) (6,25 mg : 13,755 mg). The results were analyzed with glucose levels Saphyro-Wilk test and ANOVA. In the ANOVA test showed no difference between each dose of the extract with the positive control while in the negative control group significantly different in test level of 0,05 (p < 0,05).
