Abstract
Sente plant (Alocasia macrorrhiza (L.) G. Don; family Araceae) is a plant that has traditionally often used as a medicine mainly leaf stalk as a cure wounds. Plant with family Araceae shown to have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. This study aims to determine the ability of ethanolic extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water from the sente leaf stalk (family Araceae) against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Sente leaf stalk extracted using maceration method with 70 % ethanolic, and then fractionated using liquid-liquid extraction method using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. Extract anf the result of frasctions tested antibacterial activity using dilution method by serial dilution of 40%; 20%; 10%; 5%; 2,5%; 1,25%; 0,625%; 0,3125%; 0,1562%; 0,0781%. Then the specified minimum kill concentration (MKC). The results showed that the ethanolic extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate fraction, and fraction of water from the sente leaf stalk has antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus with MKC value in a row is 5%; 20%; 2,5%; 10%. Ethyl acetate fraction had the most effective antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus. Keywords: sente leaf stalk, antibacterial, Staphylococcus aureus.
