Abstract
Pelawan leaf (Tristaniopsis obovata) is the leaf that have an antioxidant and antidiabetic effects. This study aims to know the antioxidant effect of pelawan leaf by in vitro and in vivo methods. Ethanolic extract of pelawan leaf, is tested due to the antioxidant activity by in vitro with free radical DPPH with IC50 parameters and compared with the antioxidant activity of rutin. Antioxidant tested by in vivo at this study using the increased activity of glutathione peroxidase enzyme in tissue mice liver it has been than induction with alloxan, the data that obtained is analyze by One Way Anova (p<0,05) than continued by tukey test. The result of this study showed that the ethanolic extract of pelawan leaf had antioxidant activity. Antioxidant activity ethanolic extract of Pelawan leaf by in vitro test have an IC50 as 14,020 ppm this indicated that pelawan leaf extract have a strong antioxidant. The result at in vivo test had an activity to increased level of glutathione peroxidase enzyme in the effective dose at 320 mg/kg bw mice with an increased level of glutathione peroxidase enzyme as 53 U/mg and no significant difference in the positive control.
