Abstract

Pain is defined as a sensory and emotional experience that not associated with tissue damage. The aims of this research were to determine analgesic effect of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water fractions pumpkin seed and determine the highest analgesic activity from fraction. Pumpkin seed powder was extracted by soxhletation used ethanol solvent and the fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water. This research with tail flick method used 30 male white rats strain wistar divided in 6 groups, positive control mefenamic acid 4,5 mg/ 200 g BB, normal control CMC Na 5 mg/ 200 g BB, extract pumpkin seed 60 mg/ 200 g BB, n-hexane fraction 27 mg/ 200 g BB, ethyl acetate fraction 18 mg/ 200 g BB and water fraction 16 mg/ 200 g BB. In this research the measured every thirty minutes until 3 hours after orally. The results of this research all group was different significantly compared to normal control, but n-hexane fraction was not different significantly compared to positive control. It was indicated extract and fractions have analgesic activity and n-hexane fraction showed the highest analgesic activity. Key words : analgesic, tail flick, pumpkin seed
