Abstract

Hypertension is an abnormal increase the blood pressure continuously in the arteries over a period. Nowadays a new drugs can be used to treat hypertension. However, incompliance of patients in drug regimens is a big problem of treatment failure. Interventions of pharmacist in hypertension therapy to improve the patient compliance is counseling. The purpose of this study was to describe the compliance levels in hypertension patients of PROLANIS activity in Mojolaban Primary Health Center, Sukoharjo and to determine the counseling influence to the patient compliance of medication. This study was a quasi-experimental design of The one group pretestposttest design conducted 35 respondents of PROLANIS member. The patients compliance measured with MMAS (Morisky Medication adherence Scale) questionnaires. Data of characteristic and patient compliance were tested using Paired-sample T-test and Chi-Square. The results of study showed the compliance levels of hypertension patients member of PROLANIS in Mojolaban Primary Health Center, Sukoharjo before counseling was at the low category 35 respondents (100%), while after counseling compliance levels increase into medium category 31 respondents (89%) and high category 4 respondents (11%). Counseling proven to increase patient compliance of hypertensive patients showed with Paired-sample T-test (P= 0.000) by comparing compliance before and after counseling.
