Abstract

Hypertension’s known as high blood pressure disease also called silent killer because of invisible symptoms. Hypertension treatment given for lifetime in order to keep blood pressure remain stable and prevent complications. Medication adherence on hypertensive patients is beneficial in suppression of mortality and loss, both cost and productivity losses. One of the interventions to improve adherence is pharmacists counseling. The purpose of this study is to find out the influence of counseling in PROLANIS activities on hypertensive patients’ medication adherence in Plupuh Community Health Center II, Sragen. This study used The One Group Pretest-Posttest Design with one group contained of 35 respondents treated with counseling. This study used pretest before intervention and posttest after intervention to determine adherence level by Morisky Medication adherence Scale (MMAS) questionnaire. The adherence level on hypertensive patients in Plupuh Community Health Center II Sragen before counseling contained of 30 respondents (86%) in low adherence and 5 respondents (14%) in medium adherence category, after counseling contained of 2 respondents (6%) in low adherence, 9 respondents (25%) in medium adherence, and 24 respondents (69%) in high adherence category. The result showed counseling significantly had influence on hypertensive patients’ medication adherence (P=0.000) based on MMAS questionnaire score.
