Abstract

Tea epiphyte is one plant that used for the treatment of diabetic. Tea epiphyte has several chemical constituents among these alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, glycosides, triterpenes, saponins, tannins and quercetin. This study was aimed to determine antidiabetic activity of etanol extract tea epiphyte, determine the extract dose which affect on blood glucose level rats by alloxan induction. The extraction method used is macerated with 70 % ethanol. Test animal were divided into six groups, consisted of five male white rats group 1 negative control (CMC 0,5%); group II positive control (glibenklamid) at a dose of 0,09 mg/200 g BB rats; group III, IV, V given of etanol extract tea epiphyte dose 35 mg/200 g BB rats, 70 mg/200 g BB rats, 140 mg/200 g BB rats; group VI normal control. All groups alloxan induced on day 0 (after fasting 16 hours) intraperitoneally. Examination of blood sugar levels performed on days 4, 8, and 12. The results showed etanol extract tea epiphyte has antidiabetic activity. The etanol extract tea epiphyte affect by lowers blood glucose level with an effective dose of 70 mg/200 g BB.
