Abstract

Inflammation is a response to physical or chemical stimulus that damage and causing the release of inflammatory mediators and cause an inflammatory reaction. Binahong leaf contains alkaloid, saponin, flavonoid and polyphenol. This study was aimed to determine the anti-inflammatory effect ethanol extract of binahong leaf in white male rat wistar strain and determine the effect dose of binahong leaf extract to the anti-inflammatory effect. Binahong (Anredera cordifolia (Ten.) Steenis) leaf was extracted by maceration method using ethanol 70%. Testing of antiinflammatory effect was conducted on 25 rats with method of artificial edema in foot rats induced by karagenin 1%. The test animals were divided into 5 groups, group 1 to group 5 (cream base, cream of binahong leaf ethanol extract concentrations of 2.5%, 5% and 10%, and creamof Na-diclofenac) measurements were performed after one hour injection of karagenin 1% in foot rat by subplantar. The volume of edema was measured for 2.5 hours calculated AUC and% inflammatory strenght values. The research results binahong leaf extract had anti-inflammatory effectivenessin white male rat wistar strain. Dose of binahong leaf ethanol extracts 2.5%, 5% and 10%, had anti-inflammatory strenght as 42.42%%, 60.60%, 48.48%. Dose of binahong leaf extract which possess the highest antiinflammatory effectiveness in this study was cream concentration of 5%. Keywords: anti-inflammatory, binahong leaf extract, karagenin.
