Abstract
One part bidara plants that can be used as an antibacterial is the root bidara. Phytochemical analysis showed that bidara root extract contains alkaloids, phenolics, saponin glycosides and steroids. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of ethanol extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and water from the roots bidara against Escherichia coli ATCC 25 922. The powder from the roots bidara extracted with maceration method using ethanol 70%, fractionation using n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water. Antibacterial activity test was carried out using the diffusion method with a concentration of 50%, 25%, 25%, and dilution method with a concentration of 50%, 25%, 12,5%, 6,25%, 3,13%, 1,57%, 0,79%, 0,40%, 0,20%, 0,10%. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA followed by Tukey's test. The results showed that ethanol extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water from the roots bidara has antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. Concentration of 50% ethyl acetat fraction had the most effectif antibacterial activity with inhibitory diameter 17 mm and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC) of 6,25% against Escherichia coli ATCC 25922. Keywords: Bidara roots, Escherichia coli , ethanol extract, fraction of n-hexane, ethyl acetate fraction, the fraction of water
