Abstract

Impaired cognitive function is closely related to brain function due to the ability to think will be affected by the brain. One of the popular traditional crops and is believed to have efficacy in improving memory is the leaves of gambir (Uncaria gambir Robx.) Contains chemical compounds that have antioxidant activity.This study aims to determine the effect of ethanol extract of the leaves of gambir memory enhancement in test animals by the method of Morris water maze. This study used 25 white mice (Mus musculus) were divided into 5 groups, group 1 Gingko biloba (positive control), group 2 CMC 1 % (negative control), group 3 , 4 and 5 were given ethanol extract of leaves of gambir with a dose of 14 mg/kg, 21 mg/kg, and 28 mg/kg given orally. each group consisted of 5 test animals. Results were analyzed using ANOVA one way. Morris water maze test results showed that the leaf extract Gambir has the effect of memory enhancement. There is a significant difference between the negative control treatment group compared with the ethanol extract of the leaves of gambir dose of 14 mg kg, 21 mg/kg, and 28 mg/kg. Based on the results of this study concluded that ethanol extract of the leaves of gambir group at a dose of 28 mg/kg dose the mice are most effective in improving memory in white mice.
