Abstract

Malaria is transmitted from person to person through Anopheles aconitus bite. One solution to prevent mosquito bite using anti-mosquito, Lotion of antimosquito made with chemicals that are harmful to humans and therefore need alternative use betel nut. The purpose of this study was to determine whether or not the extract of betel nut can be made as lotion preparation, as well as the repellant effects of lotion of betel nut extract to Anopheles aconitus. Betel nut was extracted by maceration, then made lotion with concentrations of 3%, 6%, 12% 24%, and 48%. Negative control was lotion base, and positive control was anti-mosquito DEET-based. Observation was conducted for 6 hours. Test of stabilitation was conducted for two weeks to tests of organoleptic, homogenity, viscosity, pH, adhesive power, dispersive power. Data were analyzed using probit analysis method so obtained EC90 value. The results showed that extracts of betel nut (Areca catechu L.) could be made as lotion. Average of EC90 values was 87,81%. This means that in concentration of 87,81%, concentration of betel nut extract already has been repell population of animal test. Keywords: lotion, extract of betel nut, repellant, EC90
