Abstract
Social maturity is the individual ability to nurture oneself, participate in social activities appropriate to his or her age and cultural group and adapt to others in various social situations. A child will go through stages of development with different developmental tasks. In general, the fit between the development of the child with what must be achieved is seen through social maturity. Changes in conditions in the family that cause parenting will fall on the closest people who are in an environment close to the nuclear family are extended family. The purpose of this research were to find differences of social maturity in children who are nurtured nuclear family and extended family. This study used purposive sampling on where those of children who are nurtured nuclear family and extended family in Dewi Sartika Kindergarten. The subjects of this research are 25 students in Dewi Sartika Kindergarten. Measuring instrument in this study using social maturity scale of Vineland or Vineland Social Maturity Scale (VSMS) and was a standard gauge developed by Doll in 1965. The results showed no significant differences in social maturity in children who are nurtured nuclear family and extended family. This is evidenced based on non-parametric statistical test by using Mann Whitney Test obtained by significance value 0.560 value p ≥ α (0,05).
