Abstract

Kecubung (Datura metel L.) leaf is one of traditional medicinal plant that can be used as a natural insecticide. The purpose of this study was to determine the insecticidal activity of ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, chloroform fraction and water fraction from kecubung (Datura metel L.) leaf to Anopheles aconitus which represented by KC50 and LC50 values. Extraction obtained by maceration then followed by fractionation to obtain n-hexane fraction, fraction chloroform and water fraction. Extraction and fractionation results that had been obtained then made into 4 series concentration, i.e. 20 ppm, 40 ppm, 80 ppm and 160 ppm. Test conducted to 20 Anopheles aconitus. Observation carried out for 20 minutes to see knockdown and 24 hours to see the death then calculated KC50 and LC50 using probit analysis. The results showed that ethanol extract, n-hexane fraction, chloroform fraction and water fraction had insecticidal activity. Chloroform fraction from kecubung (Datura metel L.) leaf had higher activity as insecticide were KC50 125.25 ppm and LC50 79.70 ppm to Anopheles aconitus compared with ethanol extract with value of KC50 184.05 ppm and LC50 171.09 ppm, n-hexane fraction with value of KC50 167.65 ppm and LC50 120.45 ppm and water fraction with value of KC50 161.20 ppm and LC50 172.99 ppm.
