Abstract

Carambola fruit (Averrhoa carambola Linn) can be used as diuretic agent. The purpose of this study was to determined the diuretic activity of carambola fruit extract and it’s effect on potassium levels were measured by AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry). The study used carambola fruit with extraction method infundation then freeze drying to obtain extract. Animals used were male white consisted of 30 rats, divided into 6 treatment groups: furosemide positive control (0,36 mg/200 g BB), negative control CMC 0,5%, normal control, and the administration of the carambola fruit extract doses 144 mg/200 g BW, 288 mg/200 g BW, 576 mg/200 g BW. Rats placed in metabolic cages that have been medified. Excreted urine volume recorded every hours for 5 hours then 24 hours, and determined the levels of electrolytes potassium in the urine using by AAS. The result of research carambola fruit aqueous extract has diuretic activity, doses of 288 mg/ 200 gr BW was effective doses provide diuretic activity with increasing of urine volume and it’s effect on potassium levels of the white male rats.
