Abstract

Curcumin is a yellow dye contained in Curcuma longa L., Curcuma domestika Val or Curcuma xanthorriza Roxb. New compounds of curcumin analog that has been synthesized have activity as antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial. This research is to unveil whether curcumin analog compound has antibacterial activity toward Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 10031, Shigella dysenteriae ATCC 9361, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, bacteria. 2.6-bis-(2’–furilidin)-cyclohexanone, 2.5-bis-(2’-furilidin)-cyclopentanone and 1.5-difuril-1-4 pentadiene-3-on is the result of synthesis from Setia Budi University laboratory of organic synthesis. This research is an experimental research using diffusion method and is conducted replication as much as 3 times of experiments and fluid used is DMSO and also positive control of amoxicillin. Research result shows that C compound (1.5–difuril-1, 4 pentadien-3-on) is the most effective compound in antibacterial activity toward Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 10031, Shigella dysenteriae ATCC 9361, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, bacteria. Keywords : Curcumin analog, Klebsiella pneumonia ATCC 10031, Shigella dysenteriae ATCC 9361, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853 and Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, difusion
