Abstract

Poor diet in communities, among others high calory, fat and cholesterol foods can cause hyperlipidemia. Due to increase of hyperlipidemia patients, it is necessary to alternate the hyperlipidemia treatment using herbs i.e. Guazuma ulmifolia, L and Hibiscus sabdarifa, L extracts. The purpose of this study was to determine activity of single dose granule and combination of Guazuma ulmifolia, L and Hibiscus sabdarifa, L extracts to decrease in LDL levels of white mice wistar strain. The study used 36 white mice were divided into six treatment groups i.e. group I granule of Guazuma ulmifolia, L ethanol extract 1 g/kgBW, group II granule of Hibiscus sabdarifa, L ethanol extract 500 mg/kgBW, group III combination of Guazuma ulmifolia, L and Hibiscus sabdarifa, L (500 mg/kgBB: 250 mg/kgBW) ethanol extracts, group IV positive control of simvastatin 0.18 mg/kg mice, group V hiperlipid control, group VI normal control (distilled water). Data LDL levels obtained were analyzed statistically using SPSS. The results showed that administration of Guazuma ulmifolia, L granule extract 1 g/kg bw, Hibiscus sabdarifa, L extract 100 mg/kgBW singly and combination of Guazuma ulmifolia, L and Hibiscus sabdarifa, L extracts (500 mg/kgBW: 250 mg/kgBW) could decrease LDL levels in blood serum of hyperlipidemia white male mice wistar strain.
