Abstract
Antioxidant is a compound which is important in maintaining health and protecting the body against negative effect of free radicals. One source is carotenoids derived from carrot (Daucus carota L.). Direct use of carrots as antioxidant was less practical, so we need a more appropriate development that is to make the carrots into cream dosage form. This aim of this study to make carrot juice cream preparation and knowing the antioxidant activity free radical DPPH expressed by the value of IC50. The carrots were extracted using juice method and then made into cream preparation with vanishing cream base. The creams were made in 5 formulas i.e. Formula 1, 2, and 3 contained 10%, 15%, and 20% carrot juice respectively. Formula 4 was negative control (without active ingredient) and formula 5 was positive control (with rutin). The obtained creams were tested for the antioxidant activity with DPPH method. The result of the study showed that carrot juice can be made preparations cream with IC50 value of the carrot juice was 506.991 ppm. The result of antioxidant activity of carrot juice cream showed that IC50 of carrot juice in formula 1, 2, and 3 were 734.877 ppm, 707.984 ppm, and 692.309 ppm respectively.
