Abstract
Ethanol is a kind of volatile liquid, flammable, colorless, and the alcohols are most frequently used in everyday life. Ethanol is included in a single chain alcohol with the chemical formula C2H5OH.Ethanol can be obtained from the fermentation of fruit or grain, and so forth. Methanol is a compound which has the chemical formula CH3CH2OH. This compound has many benefits, typically used in the industry as the starting material manufacturing various chemicals, such as formaldehyde, acetic acid, methacrylate, ethyleneglycol, and so forth. Methanol is a liquid chemical that is toxic and extremely dangerous to the human body. This study aimed to analyze the levels of ethanol and methanol from samples of alcoholic beverage using gas chromatography circulating in the community. Gas chromatography is one methodology used to analyze the levels of ethanol. This method is specific for the identification and determination of ethanol and can be used for the separation of a mixture of alcohols such as methanol and isopropanol simultaneously. Based on data analysis and discussion, it can be concluded that the levels of ethanol and methanol in the sample 1 was (26.80% and 0.19%), sample 2 was (22.69% and 0.11%) and sample 3 at (26, 13% and 0.17%).
