Abstract

Protozoa infection is an infection caused by a parasite; the disease is spread almost all over the world, especially in the tropical development country. It usually happens due to the less of supportive health behavior of individual personal hygiene and environmental sanitation. This study was aimed to determine the relationship between intestinal protozoa infection toward personal hygiene of Trash Hauler at Putri Cempo Surakarta Garbage landfill. This is an observation study with cross-sectional design. The sample collection technique was done by using a questionnaire and faeses examination conducted to 30 workers at Putri Cempo Surakarta garbage landfill. The data was done by descriptive analysis and presented in the form of a frequency distribution. The result of intestinal protozoa examination and personal hygiene of the landfill workers of Putri Cempo Surakarta indicated that one respondent has been infected by intestinal protozoa. Personal hygiene of the landfill workers of Putri Cempo Surakarta is considered good. It is indicated by the percentage that 80 % of the workers of trash hauler has good personal hygiene and the rest of them, 20% has poor personal hygiene. The type of protozoa found in the landfill workers of Putri Cempo Surakarta is Balantidum coli. Keywords: intestinal protozoan infections, personal hygiene, trash hauler
