Abstract

Caesalpinia Sappan wood plant is one of the plants, therapeutic drug compounds containing Saponins, Alkaloids, Flavonoids and Tannins so the wood can be used as antibacterial. Salmonella typhi is one of bacterial pathogen that causes typhoid fever. This research aims to test the antibacterial activity of Caesalpinia Sappan wood plant extracts against the growth of the bacteria Salmonella typhi in diffusion method. Extracts of Caesalpinia Sappan wood plants obtained through maceration method using solvent ethanol 70%. Extracts of Caesalpinia Sappan wood plant made with different concentrations (75%, 50%, 25% and 10%). Testing of antibacterial activity carried out diffusion to know the diameter of radical zone against Salmonella typhi. The results of the research of antibacterial activity of extracts from Caesalpinia Sappan wood plants against Salmonella typhi form the average diameter of the zone of resistance at concentrations of 10% is 3 mm, 25% concentration is 4.3 mm, 50% concentration is 6.3 mm and 75% concentration is 7.6 mm. Based on statistical analysis, the best concentration is 75%. It showed extracts of Caesalpinia Sappan wood plant has antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi.
