Abstract

Kidney is vital organ that play an important role in maintaining environmental stability in the body. Chronic renal failure usually appear after a disease or kidney damage for years and can lead to death. Renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis will develop anemia characterized by reduce of hemoglobin levels. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there is a decrease in hemoglobin levels in patients with renal failure before and after hemodialysis. Examination of hemoglobin levels conducted on 24 renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis at Dr. Moewardi Hospital. The data was obtained by examination of hemoglobin directly in renal failure patients before and after hemodialysis. Examination of hemoglobin levels by cyanmethemoglobin method. The examination results showed that in 24 renal failure patients before and after hemodialysis obtained, 15 patients (62.50%) after hemodialysis the hemoglobin levels was higher, 1 patient (4.17%) the hemoglobin levels equal between before and after hemodialysis and 8 patients (33.33%) after hemodialysis the hemoglobin levels was lower.
