Abstract
Mengkudu (Morinda citrifolia L.) is one of medicinal plants nutritious as medicine of dysentery, diarrhea, and antiseptic. Mengkudu reportedly contains many saponins, essential oils, alkaloids and triterpenoids. Vibrio cholerae is bacteria that causes cholera disease with clinical features: vomiting, diarrhea great with stools like rice water in large quantities can lead to dehydration, electrolyte loss and increase in blood acidity. Furthermore, based on the information carried out research with the aim to test the antibacterial activity of Mengkudu leaf extract on the growth of the bacterium Vibrio cholerae. Mengkudu leaf extract obtained by maceration method using ethanol 70%. Dilution of the Mengkudu leaf extract prepared in various concentrations (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%). Antibacterial effectiveness test conducted by the diffusion method to determine the zone diameter radicals against Vibrio cholerae. The results showed the chemical content of Mengkudu leaf extract are saponins, essential oils, alkaloids, polyphenols, and triterpenoids. At a concentration of 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% indicates a radical zone on the growth of Vibrio cholerae and the statistical test is most effective concentration is a concentration of 50%.
