Abstract

Waste stems of papaya is a material that is not considered useful in the environment, it can even cause illness,howeverin the papaya stalkcontainswasteselulosewhichcan be used as raw material for the manufacture of oxalic acid. Research on smelting waste stems of papaya (Carica papaya)be carried out usingoxalic acid Potassium Hydroxide (KOH) 25%, thecomparison between the waste stemsof papaya and the volume of25%KOH is1:1,1:2, 1:3, 1:4. Each melted for 60 minutes.The resultof smelting wastestems ofpapayaisfiltered toget thefiltrate. The filtrate is generated then determined simply applied with the methods of permanganometry. The results showed the levels of variations of oxalic acid with a comparison between the waste stems of papayaandKOH solution25%volume1:1, 1:2, 1:3, 1:4in a row5.41%, 6.02%,5.47%,and 5.23%. Judging from the results, on a comparison of 1:2 is the highest concentration of oxalic acid is formed and starts down in comparison to 1:3 and 1:4, so that it can be interpreted that the oxalic acid formed themost optimumin a1:2 withcomparison with results ofoxalic acid levelsi.e.6.02 %.
