Abstract

Menopause is the time in female’s life when her monthly menstruation permanently stops due to the loosing of ovarian follicular activities. The fewer follicles growing are, the fewer hormone (progesterone and estrogen) formation activities in the ovary will be. A decline in estrogen in menopausal women results in increased uric acid levels. Therefore, the writer is motivated to investigate whether there is an increase in blood uric acid levels in menopausal women. This scientific writing paper was composed on the basis of the experimental research conducted in the Laboratory of Setia Budi University of Surakarta and supported with theoretical reviews. A total of 20 blood serum samples of menopausal women were studied to find out the uric acid levels using Enzymatic Photometric Test with TBHBA (2,4,6–tri bromo–hydroxyl benzoid acid ). Based on the results of uric acid level examination on 20 samples from menopausal women, it was found that a total of 45% samples appear to have elevated uric acid levels and 55% samples do not show any increase.
