Abstract
Nifedipine is an antihypertensive with a strong vasodilator effect. Nifedipine perfectly absorbed in the stomach. Conventional dosage of nifedipine have weaknesses reduce compliance of patients so the goal of therapy is not successful. This can be of a floating tablet. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of varying concentrations of citric acid and sodium bicarbonate to produce the physical quality of a good tablet floating nifedipine. Floating tablet formulations of nifedipine created using effervescent system. The method used is wet granulation. Formulations made 3 formula is formula I (50% A: 50% B); formula II (25% A: 75% B); formula III (0% A: 100% B). A component is citric acid and B component is sodium bicarbonate. Test tablet floating cover weight uniformity, hardness, friability, and floating lag time. Results showed the good physical quality formula with nifedipine good floating tablet is a formula with a concentration of 25% citric acid and sodium bicarbonate 75% where the floating lag time occurs most rapidly. Sodium bicarbonate increase tablet friability and accelerate floating lag time. Citric acid increases the hardness of tablets and accelerate floating lag time.
