Abstract
Pediculosis capitis is an infection of the skin/ hair by Pediculus humanus capitis. This remains as the second highest after scabies, especially in the children of school age. The risk factor of patients with pediculosis capitis is personal hygiene and poor sanitation. The purpose of this study was to determine the percentage of Pediculus humanus capitis examination results and the relationship of personal hygiene and environmental sanitation to the existence of Pediculus humanus capitis in the children at Putri Cempo landfill Surakarta. The type of this research was an analytic observational study with cross sectional approach. The research was conducted at Putri Cempo lamdfill Surakarta on May 1 to June 30 2015. The sample used is 68 children taken by purposive sampling technique. The data were collected through a questionnaire and analyzed by using SPSS. Besides, it is also the samples of Pediculus humanus capitis found in children by microscopic. Based on the sample of 68 respondents, found that children with good personal hygiene and pediculosis capitis are 13 people (19.7%), while children with bad personal hygiene and pediculosis capitis are 2 people (100%), and children with good environmental sanitation and pediculosis capitis are 11 people (17 , 5%), while children with bad environmental sanitation and pediculosis capitis are 4 people (80%). Then, it can be concluded that children with positive Pediculus humanus capitis are 22.1% while children with negative Pediculus humanus capitis are 77.9% and it obtained the relationship between personal hygiene and environmental sanitation toward the existence of Pediculus humanus capitis in the children at Putri Cempo landfill, Surakarta.
