Abstract

Type 2 diabetes melitus (DM) is a metabolic disorder of glucose caused by two main factors namely inadequate secretion of insulin (insulin deficiency), and less sensitivity of body tissues to insulin (insulin resistance). Insulin resistance plays an important role in most of the components of metabolic syndrome. Uric acid is a surrogate marker of the metabolic syndrome. Uncontrolled diabetes will cause chronic complications so that glycemic control needs to be done, namely examination of glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) where a controlled DM with a cutoff value of <7% and uncontrolled DM ≥ 7%. The purpose of this research was to know the compare of uric acid levels in patients with type 2 diabetes controlled and uncontrolled. This research uses uric acid levels were controlled and uncontrolled in patients with type 2 diabetes melitus by the number of subject is 66 samples. This type of research is observational with cross sectional approach. Results showed from 66 subjects of the uric acid levels in a controlled glycemic control at 7.3 ± 2.9 and the mean uric acid levels on glycemic control in uncontrolled at 6.3 ± 0.1. The results from an Independent T-test is obtained probability 0.208, because the probability of > 0.05, we conclude that there are no significant differences between uric acid levels in patients with type 2 diabetes is controlled and uncontrolled.
