Abstract
The most commonly occuring intestinal parasitic diseases are helminthic infections and these become health problems for Indonesian people. However, these types of diseases receive less attention. Helminthic diseases are caused by Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH). STH species include Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, Ancylostoma duodenale, Necator americanus. Stoneware artisans are groups of people with helminthic infection risk since most of their activities are directly related to soil which is contaminated by larvae or eggs. This study belongs to explanatory research to find out the relationship between helminthic infections and knowledge, behavior and habit in maintaining hygiene. The research subjects were 30 stoneware artisans. This study was carried out by obtaining feces from stoneware artisans and distributing questionnaires. The data were analyzed using Spearman’s analysis technique to find out the correlation. The results of analysis on the correlation of knowledge and helminthic infections demonstrate the sig value of 0.000, which is smaller than 0.05. It shows that there is a significant relationship between knowledge and helminthic infections. The results of analysis on behavior and helminthic infections show the sig value of 0.101, that is greater than 0.05. It indicates an insignificant relationship between behavior and helminthic infections. The results of analysis on habit and helminthic infections demonstrate the sig value of 0.68, and this is greater than 0.05. It doesn’t show any significant relationship between habit and helminthic infections. In conclusion, there is significant relationship between knowledge and helminthic infections, while behavior and habit do not show any relationship. Keywords : Soil Transmitted Helminths, knowledge, behavior, habit in maintaining hygiene.
