Abstract
Gout is a type of disease resulted from monosodium urate (MSU) crystal deposits in tissues due to an excess of uric acid levels in the blood which is socalled hyperuricemia. Hyperuricemia prevalence in Indonesia is difficult to be obtained, and it is commonly gout disease. This sort of disease more likely occurs in men than in women, particularly in menopausal women. This study aims at comparing uric acid levels in menopausal and non-menopausal women. This research uses cross-sectional design, conducted on 5 April – 10 April 2016 using 60 samples, including 30 menopausal women and 30 nonmenopausal women at Dr. Moewardi Hospital of Surakarta. Statistical analysis was significant when p (<0.05) with a confidence interval of 95%. The findings indicate that the average standard deviation score of uric acid levels in menopausal women is 6.970 ± 1.1668 mg/dl and the average standard deviation score of uric acid levels in non-menopausal women is 5.393 ± 0.5711 mg/dl. The results of analysis on independent sample t-test show tcount of 6.648 > ttable of 2002 and p-value of 0.001 < 0.05. In conclusion, there is a significant difference between the examination results uric acid levels in menopausal women and those in non-menopausal women.
