Abstract

Lempuyang wangi is a medicinal plant often used by people in Java and Sumatra. This plant rhizomes are often used for asthma medication, relieve pain, cleanse the blood and increase appetite. This study aims to determine the effects of short subcronic toxicity to toxic symptoms, liver biochemistry including glomerular levels of transminase oxaloacetic glutamate (GOT) and glutamate pyruvate transminase (GPT), rat liver histopathology, and influence of dose variation. Ethanol extract of lempuyang wangi rhizome was obtained by maceration extraction with 96% ethanol solvent. This study used 25 male rats and 25 female rats, each divided into 5 groups given a 0.5% CMC suspension, ethanol extract of lempuyang wangi rhizome 125, 250, and 500 mg / kgbb daily for 30 days, and the satellite group given lempuyang wangi extract for 28 days and observed its reversibel effect for 14 days. Liver biochemical examination was performed on t0, t-28, and t-42 and histopathologic observations were performed at the end of the toxicity test study. The results of this study indicate that the ethanol extract of lempuyang wangi rhizome does not giverise to toxic effect and clinical symptoms effect. The ethanol extract of lempuyang wangi rhizome given dose 125, 250, and 500 mg / kgbb effect on levels of SGOT and SGPT in male and female rats and histopathologic images of the liver.
