Abstract

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a Gram negative and bacil bacteria. It causes implicated in wound infections, surgical site infections and severe burns. Sensitivity of Pseudomonas aeruginosa to antibiotics always continuously changes, hence antibiotics usage monitoring is needed. This study aims to investigate the existence of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in pus samples at Dr. Moewardi General Hospital and its sensitivity towards antibiotics. The type of this study is observational analysis with cross-sectional approach. Samples were inoculated onto Pseudomonas Selective Agar (PSA) in order to isolate pure Pseudomonas aeruginosa and continued with Gram staining and biochemistry tests. Pus isolated Pseudomonas aeruginosa was tested for its sensitivity to six antibiotics (amoxicillin, gentamicin, amikacin, imipenem, ceftazidime, ciprofloxacin) by following Kirby-Bauer diffusion methods. Inhibition zone diameter in sensitivity test was compared to Clinical and Laboratory Standart Institute (CLSI) The result shown that Pseudomonas aeruginosa has positively found in 8 of 30 sample from Dr. Moewardi General Hospital surakarta ( 27,6 % ). Sensitivity test revealed that Pseudomonas aeruginosa sensitive (100 %) to gentamicin, amikacin, imipenem, ceftazidime and ciprofloxacin and 100 % resistance to antibiotics amoxicillin. .
