Abstract
Employees of a hospital are potential resources who need to be trained in order to make them more productive and qualified. Organizational commitment is a strong intention or motive to be a member of an organization by showing a great attempt, strong faith and organization’s goals. Individual behavior like office colleague, superior, and subordinate, both in organizational environment and in social environment, to be able to think, act, and react properly, effectively and efficiently. Patient’s safety has been carried in paramedics’ attitude and behavior in treating patients every day. Occupational health refers to a condition of being free of physical and mental disorders which can come from working environment. This study aims at examining the influence of individual’s organizational commitment and behavior on patient’s safety at Regional Public Hospital of Surakarta and the roles of occupational health of medical employees and paramedics as moderators in explaining the influence of individual’s organizational commitment and behavior on patient’s safety at Regional Public Hospital of Surakarta. This study applied survey method with purposive sampling technique. The samples taken were 96 in-house employees, and 60 respondents of in-house employees were used at Regional Public Hospital of Surakarta in May 2015. Data were collected using questionnaires. Data were later analyzed using validity, reliability, and multiple regression analysis tests. The results of multiple regression analysis test demonstrate that occupational health plays significant roles in patient’s safety, organizational commitment contributes significantly to patient’s safety but insignificantly to occupational health, individual’s behavior has a significant effect on patient’s safety and occupational health, occupational health does not mediate organizational commitment and patient’s safety, and occupational health mediates some of individual’s behavior and patient’s safety.
