Abstract

Pediculosis capitis is one of blood sucker ectoparasites infesting on human scalp, retaying and causing various problems. This desease is caused by Pediculus humanus capitis. The rate of Pediculosis capitis incidence is 51,92% in Indonesia remains high, particularly on panggung house occupants and of non-panggung house occupants in Toleon village. This study aims at investigating the percentage of the percentage of examination results on Pediculus humanus capitis and the influence of personal hygiene of panggung house occupants and of non-panggung house occupants on the existence of Pediculus humanus capitis in Toleon village, Malaka regency, East Nusa Tenggara province. This is an observational research with cross-sectional approach. This research was carried out in Toleon village, Malaka regency, East Nusa Tenggara from 10 February to 1 March 2016. A total of 148 samples were used and taken with purposive sampling technique. Data were obtained using questionnaire and were later analyzed with SPSS program. Microscopic and macroscopic examinations were also conducted on Pediculus humanus capitis samples found in respondents. Analysis on 148 shows that 72.30% of respondents have good personal hygiene and 27.70% of respondents have less personal hygiene. Approximately 75% respondents are positive with Pediculuc humanus capitis and 25% are negative. The risk factor of Pediculosis capitis sufferers is a habit to sleep in group. Mann-Whitney test indicates that there is no significant difference on personal hygiene of panggung house occupants and non-panggung house occupants in Toleon village, Malaka regency, East Nusa Tenggara.
