Abstract

Rational prescribing highly coveted by all parties, either by doctor who wrote prescription, pharmacist and patient. The purpose of this study was to determine the prescribing pattern which appropriate to main prescription indicators of WHO which include : average drug item per prescription, percentage of generic prescription, percentage of antibiotic prescription, percentage of injection prescription, and percentage of prescription in accordance with hospital formulary by taking samples at Cilegon Hospital Banten in 2013, with total sample as 600 prescriptions. Data were collected retrospectively in 2013 at the General Hospital in Cilegon Banten. Systematic retrieval of data on a random sampling sheet outpatient prescriptions at the General Hospital in Cilegon Banten. The sample used in this study is most outpatient prescription sheets that go public in Cilegon Banten General Hospital in 2013. The results showed that average drug item per prescription was 2.4 drug item, percentage of generic prescription was 79.2%, percentage of antibiotic prescription was 21.4%, percentage of injection prescription was 0.4% and percentage of prescription in accordance with hospital formulary was 100 %. From the results, it could be concluded that prescribing pattern in Cilegon Hospital Banten was meet the prescribing standard which had recommended by WHO, unless total drug item per prescription and percentage of generic prescription.
