Abstract
Hyperlipidemia is the high levels of cholesterol within blood. Previous research states that a dose of 17.28 mg / 200 g BW rat ethanol extract of leaves of peanut able to reduce total cholesterol in hyperlipidemic rats. Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L) is expected to contain flavonoid, saponin, and polyphenol that can be used as anti-cholesterol. Flavonoids, saponins and polyphenols soluble in polar solvents. This research aimed to find out the n-hexane, acetate ethyl and water fractions of peanut ethanol extract as anti-cholesterol. The extraction of peanut leaves was carried out using remaceration with ethanol 70% as solvent, followed by fractionation with n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and water solvents. The fractionation dose administered equaled to that of peanut leaves ethanol extract most effectively reducing the total cholesterol level, 5.1 mg/200 g BW. Hypercholesterol condition was prepared by administering bovine and quail egg fat for 14 days. The tested animals were divided into 6 groups, each of which consisted of 5 rats. Group one was treated as normal control, group two was administered cmc 0.5% as negative control, group three was administered simvastatin 0.18 mg/200 g BW, group five was given ethyl acetate fraction of 1.41/200 g BW and group six was given water fraction 2.55 mg/200 g BW. The tested preparation was administered for 14 days. The total cholesterol level measurement was conducted on the days-0, -14, and -28. The data obtained was analyzed statistically using One Way Anova test with SPPS for Windows Release 17.0 program. The result of research showed that ethyl acetate of peanut ethanol extract were the one most actively reducing the total cholesterol level in wistar male white rat fed a high-fat diet that is almost equal to the decrease in total cholesterol in the administration of simvastatin. Keywords: Peanut leave, n-hexane fraction, ethyl acetate fraction, water fraction, total cholesterol, hypercholesterol.
