Abstract
Mahogany seed lots examined activity as antihyperglycemic with the chemical content of flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins. This research aims to prove mahogany seed oil has a antihyperglycemic activity and to find out if the combination of metformin and a mahogany seed oil is effective to decrease blood sugar levels of rats with insulin resistance. The test animals used were Rattus norvegicus that were fed high fat diet for 2 months. Rats were divided into 7 groups. The first group as normal group, the group as a group of insulin resistance, the third group given a mahogany seed oil 2,35 ml/200 gram BB, the fourth group was given metformin 9 mg/200 gram BB, the fifth group was given a combination of metformin and a mahogany seed oil 1,8 ml/200 gram BB: 2,25 mg/200 gram BB, the sixth group of mahogany and seed oil was given metformin 1,2 ml/200 g BB : 4,5 mg/200 gram BB, the seventh group was given metformin mahogany and seed oil of 0,6 ml/200 gram BB: 6,75 mg/200 gram BB. The administration of mahogany seed oil, and metformin combination was done twice a day for 2 days and observations done every day. The data obtained were analyzed with one way ANOVA (significant set at p < 0.05). The results showed that mahogany seed oil not have antihyperglycemic activity and all comparison combination cannot to decrease blood sugar levels first days after given.
