Abstract

Colon cancer is a type of gastrointestinal malignancy after the second largest hepatocellular malignancy in Indonesia. One typical Indonesian plant has enough potential to be developed as an anticancer namely cinnamon According to previous research compound in cinnamon that have anticancer activity is cinnamaldehyde. This research purposed to known the cytotoxic effect of ethanol extract and n-hexane cinnamon leaf in colon cancer cell line WiDr Cinnamon leaf were extracted by maceration method with ethanol 96% and n-hexane. Analysis of the chemical constituents do with the color reagent and TLC. Test cytotoxic on WiDr cells by MTT assay method with a concentration series of 500; 250; 125; 62.5; 31.25 and 15.625 μg/ml and incubation for 24-hour. Positive controls were used in this research is doksorubusin. The result form of readings ELISA absorbance reader is used to calculate the cell viability WiDr, then analyzed by linear regression to calculate the IC50 value. The result showed that the ethanol extract and n-hexane extract of Cinnamomum burmanni had low cytotoxic activity in WiDr cells. Ethanol extract of cinnamon leaf had IC50 value 405,69 μg/ml and n-hexane extract of cinnamon leaf had IC50 323,06 μg/ml in WiDr cells.
